Grand Mirage Resort and Thalasso Bali Overview

The Grand Mirage Resort is ideally located in South Bali, just a 20 to 30 minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, making it easy to get straight into holiday mode. The resort sits right on Tanjung Benoa Beach, a hotspot for water sports and a front-row seat to breathtaking sunrises.

Because the resort is split into two wings, there are separate lobbies: one for the Main Wing and another for the Family Paradise Wing. Make sure your driver knows which wing you’re staying in, it will save you a bit of confusion when you first arrive!

Family Paradise Wing

The Family Paradise Wing is just a short 100‑metre stroll along the beach from the Main Wing. Although it’s completely separate, guests staying in the Family Wing have access to all the facilities of both wings, including pools, restaurants, and the beach. The beach path is stroller-friendly, making it easy for families with young children to get around. This modern wing is designed with kids in mind, featuring fantastic facilities like a splash park, waterslides, and plenty of fun activities to keep little ones entertained all day.

Rooms at Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Bali Family Wing

During our 2017 stay, we were in the Family Paradise Wing on the 3rd floor in a Kid’s Suite overlooking both the pool and the beach, a great spot for families who love being close to the action. I also had the chance to look through the 3-bedroom apartments, which sit directly above the Family Wing pool and offer plenty of space for larger families or those travelling with grandparents.

In 2023, one of the families travelling with us stayed in a 2-bedroom suite on the ground floor, right next to the pool. It was incredibly convenient for quick swims, supervising the kids and easy access to the pool throughout the day.

The Grand Mirage website has excellent floor plans for every room type, so instead of listing each layout here, I’ll share photos and details from the rooms we’ve personally stayed in and viewed to give you a real feel for what to expect.

Grand Mirage Kids Suite Room

We absolutely loved the layout of the Kid’s Suite room. For our family of four, there was plenty of space, and having a separate bedroom just for the kids made the stay so much more comfortable. Their room included bunk beds with a pull-out trundle (sleeping up to three kids), their own TV, a small bathroom and plenty of storage.

One of my favourite features was that the kids’ bedroom has no external windows or balcony access. It gave me so much peace of mind, and it also meant the room stayed dark, quiet, and cool, which helped the kids sleep really well.

Another simple but important detail: the sliding door between the kids’ room and the main bedroom doesn’t have a lock, so there’s no chance of little ones accidentally locking themselves in their room. The kids’ bathroom is compact with a shower, toilet, and basin; basic but exactly what we needed.

The main bedroom in the Kid’s Suite was a great size and felt comfortable for our stay. The bathroom was roomy, with a shower-over-bath setup, which is always handy when travelling with younger kids. There was also plenty of storage space, including a closet with a safe, a fridge and a minibar. If you’re staying on the all-inclusive package, the minibar is included and replenished daily, which is a nice bonus.

Our balcony overlooked the pool, and it was spacious enough for us to sit outside and enjoy the view. The drying rack on the balcony was handy; we used it constantly for swimmers and beach gear.

2-bedroom Suite

In 2023, our extended family stayed in Room 117, a 2-bedroom suite on the ground floor of the Family Paradise Wing. I only managed to get a few photos of their room, but the location was fantastic. Just steps from the pool, making it super convenient for quick dips and keeping an eye on the kids.

The suite includes two separate bedrooms: one with its own ensuite and the other with access to a separate bathroom. The lounge room offered plenty of space for the kids to spread out, play and relax, making it an ideal setup for larger families or those travelling with grandparents.

3-bedroom Ocean View Apartment

During our 2017 stay, I had the chance to look through the stunning three-bedroom apartments that overlook the Family Paradise pool. These apartments offer a huge amount of space and are ideal for extended families or groups of friends travelling together. They provide the comfort of separate bedrooms, large living areas and plenty of room for everyone to relax.

Grand Mirage Resort kids’ facilities

The Grand Mirage Family Paradise Wing is designed to keep kids entertained from morning to night. There’s truly no time to be bored and you might even find it hard to get them to do other activities! The kids’ facilities are thoughtfully spread out throughout the Family Wing but everything is close enough to walk between easily, making it simple for parents to supervise while children explore and play.

Kids Waterpark

The kids’ waterpark is located near the lobby along the main road, but don’t worry, it’s completely secure and not directly connected to the street. There’s a small viewing area where parents can comfortably sit, and it’s perfect for younger kids. There is no supervisor on duty, so parental or nanny supervision is required at all times for safety.

The main pool in the Family Paradise Wing is a great size for families, with a shallow area perfect for younger children and a deeper section for older kids. Our kids loved meeting and playing with other children and the water slide was a big hit.

An attendant supervises the slide, and it is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, giving parents peace of mind. Right next to the slide is a rock-climbing wall, adding extra fun for adventurous kids. A playground overlooking the beach is also nearby, making it easy for younger children to enjoy playtime while parents relax by the pool.

The Kids Zone at the Grand Mirage Family Paradise Wing is a lot of fun, with two air-conditioned rooms (Indoor Playground and Electronic Games Room) located opposite each other. Fun events, including foam parties, movie nights and “swim like a mermaid” sessions, keep children entertained throughout the day. The Kids Club is designed for children aged 4 and older and is open from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s divided into three zones:

• Mini Club 4 to 7 years old
• Kids Club 8 to 12 years old
• Teens Club 13 to 15 years old

The Indoor Playground and Electronic Games Room can also be accessed independently, without signing in to the Kids Club. This gives families flexible options for playtime as the rooms are open after the kids’ club activities finish. Kids under 5 should be under adult supervision when accessing the rooms independently. Grand Mirage Bali Restaurants Family Wing

There is a huge range of restaurants at the Grand Mirage, so if you prefer not to leave the resort, you definitely won’t go hungry! While the Family Wing doesn’t have as many dining options as the Main Wing, it still offers a great range for families. You’ll find Ibu Kitchen, MahiMahi Poolside Resto, Chopstick Chinese Seafood Restaurant and room service, all providing convenient and tasty options throughout your stay.

Breakfast Grand Mirage Family Wing

Breakfast in the Family Wing is served at Ibu Kitchen from 7 am to 11 am. There was a good selection, and the kids were more than happy with their usual favourites; pancakes, cornflakes, muffins, juice and eggs. If you are after even more variety, the Main Wing breakfast has a wider spread and you are welcome to eat in either wing, which is a great option for families.

Lunch and dinner are available for seated dining at Ibu Kitchen, which is open from 11 am to 11 pm. They offer a good range of dishes to suit the whole family, including plenty of kid-friendly options. Room service is also available 24 hours a day, with a smaller but convenient menu, perfect for those times when you just want to relax in the room.

Open from 11 am to 6 pm, the poolside restaurant in the Family Paradise Wing offers a great variety of food for the whole family. One minor downside is that it doesn’t open until 11 am, which may be a little late for early risers. A fun bonus for kids: daily free cotton candy, with serving times listed below, a small treat that always brings a smile!

Open from 11 am to 9:30 pm, this restaurant serves delicious Chinese cuisine, including a wide variety of seafood dishes, making it a popular choice for families and seafood lovers alike.

Beach at Family Paradise Wing

Tanjung Benoa Beach isn’t quite like the pristine beaches you’ll find in Australia, but it has its own charm. It’s fantastic for water sports, and the beach path is perfect for early morning walks. If you want to catch a stunning sunrise, aim to be on the path around 6 am. It’s a peaceful and beautiful way to start the day.

Family Paradise Wing Facilities

The Family Paradise Wing may not have quite as many facilities as the Main Wing, as it’s primarily focused on kids’ activities. However, it still offers fantastic extras for families, plenty to keep the kids entertained while parents relax. It’s a fun, easy space for younger families who want everything close by and kid-friendly.

Bike Hire

The beachfront path in front of the Grand Mirage Resort is perfect for a relaxed family bike ride. The resort offers a great range of bikes for all ages, making it easy to get everyone out for some fresh air and a fun ride along the coastline.

Coin-Operated Laundry

I usually send our dirty clothes to a local laundry, as there are several just across the road from the Grand Mirage. However, if you prefer to wash your own clothes, the Family Paradise Wing has a coin-operated laundry available. Alternatively, if you’ve booked the all-inclusive package, you can also use the allocated laundry service included in your stay.

Final Thoughts on The Grand Mirage Resort Family Paradise Wing

We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Mirage Bali Family Paradise Wing, and the kids absolutely loved the huge range of activities available. One thing to keep in mind is that the Family Wing doesn’t have a strong Balinese cultural feel, it is modern and could be a resort anywhere in the world. This will suit many families who want convenience and kid-focused facilities, but it’s worth noting if you’re looking for a more traditional Bali atmosphere.

Overall, the family rooms offer excellent value for money and include everything you need for a comfortable stay, especially when your kids are younger, and you want easy access to pools, kids‘ activities and dedicated family spaces.
